NoteThere is a possibility that on 28 October 1906, Henrietta Haughey and William John Chitty and some of their children lived at 235 West 17th Street, New York City, New York, which is the address daughter Frances gave at the time of her wedding.15 
NoteThere is a possibility that on 23 November 1907, Henrietta Haughey and William John Chitty and some of their children lived at 638 Washington Street, New York City, New York, which is the address daughter Violet gave at the time of her wedding.7 
Census1910FedUS*She and William John Chitty appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of New York City, New York, at 38 Bedford Street, enumerated 23 April 1910. Their children Margaret, Grace, William and Charles M. were listed as living with them There was also a person listed as a servant in the household. Her name is illegible, something like Bertha/Martha Leny/Leu..., and she is shown as single, age 24, born NY, parents Russian (spoke Yiddish).13 
Num Child*She and William John Chitty were shown in the 1900 census as having had 10 children, nine surviving at that date. In 1910, they claimed that of their 10 children, only five were still living. Family recollection is also that there were 10 children, but my research shows that at least eight of the children survived until the 1910 census. There is a possibility that Bessie and Gussie were the same person, although that would bring the number of identified children down to 9.13,5,16 
(Witness) MarriageShe attended the wedding of Howard Tucker Bailey and Margaret Chitty on 8 May 1912 at 81 Jane Street, New York City, New York.17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24 
(Widow) DeathShe was widowed when William John Chitty drowned in the East River at Rutgers Street, New York City, New York, on 14 July 1912.25,5,26,27,28 
ResidenceShe lived in 1916 at 240 West 10th Street, New York City, New York.29 
Census1920FedUS*She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of New York City, New York, at 240 West 10th Street, enumerated 9 January 1920. Her children Charles M., Frances and Grace were listed as living with her, as were Frances' daughters Irene Cavagnaro and Ruth Veronica Cavagnaro.3 
ResidenceShe lived on 27 May 1920 at 240 West 10th Street, New York City, New York. Her daughter Bessie lived with her and gave this address on her wedding certificate.8 
Census1930FedUS*Henrietta appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of New York City, New York, at 240 West 10th Street, enumerated 3 April 1930. There appear to be numerous errors in the family's enumeration. Henrietta's children Charles M., Frances, Grace, Violet, James Egbert and Bessie were listed as living with her, as was her granddaughter Ruth Cavagnaro; but James, Violet, Bessie and Charles were also enumerated elsewhere with their own families. In addition, Frances is shown with her maiden name, as is Frances' daughter Ruth. Frances may have gone back to her maiden name, but Ruth herself used Cavagnaro later in life. Frances may also have remarried, and there are so many errors in this enumeration she may not have been living there. Ruth Cavagnaro reported late in life that she had been raised for a time by Henrietta, and she may have been living there but her mother with her new husband.14,30 
Residence*Henrietta lived in 1940 at 608 88th Street, Brooklyn, New York. She may have been living with her daughter Violet and family.6,31 
Death*She died on 24 September 1940 at Bellevue Hospital, New York City, New York, at age 84.32,31,6 
Burial*She was buried on 27 September 1940 at Flower Hill Cemetery, 5433 Kennedy Boulevard, North Bergen, Hudson County, New Jersey.5,6,32,31 
Description*She was described as being very strict. She taught her granddaughters to be good cooks and very good housekeepers. She refused to use mops and told the girls "there were no round rooms" and that they should always wash floors by hand to be sure the corners were clean. She was a laundress and homemaker.33,6,5
