ObituaryWilliam's obituary from at Moretonhampstead, Devon, England, reads:
Moretonhampstead's Grand Old Man
The funeral took place on Saturday at St. Andrew’s Parish Churchyard of William Stanleick of Cross St. Moretonhampstead who passed away on October 29th. The deceased, who celebrated his 90th. [sic] birthday only a few weeks ago and received many congratulatory messages was the oldest male inhabitant of the town. He was a jovial and popular figure, known by everybody, having resided there for over 60 years. In his younger days he was a keen horseman, employed by Mr. Sunger of Torquay, and was a frequent follower of the hounds whilst in his employ. Before his retirement he was a foreman platelayer and came to Moreton on the first train which arrived at the town on the completion of the branch line from Newton Abbot and he helped in it’s [sic] construction. For over 20 years he was Chairman of the Moreton Rational Friendly Society and was for some years caretaker of the local branch of Lloyds Bank until the death of his wife. At the time of his death he was residing with his daughters. The service was held in the Congregational Church of which the deceased had been a member for many years and was conducted by Mr. S. B. Angel, resident Minister, who gave an eloquent address. There was a large number of friends and sympathisers [sic] present. The service was choral; Mrs. Radcliffe presiding at the organ. The hymns sung were Rock of Ages, Now the Labourers [sic] Task is O’er and O Rest in the Lord.
The chief mourners were Mesdames Clay, Sharland, Peacey, Wilkins, Misses A. and F. Stanleick (daughters); Messrs. W. Clay, W. Sharland, A. Peacey and R. Wilkins (sons in law); Mrs. E. Stanleick (daughter in law); Mr. E. R. Stanleick (grandson); Misses P. Woodley, B. Woodley and May Stanleick (nieces).12

Religion*He was a member of the Congregational Church.12
OccupationHe was described in his obituary as a foreman railway platelayer. [The term "platelayer" is the British name for the men who laid and maintained the railway tracks in Britain, right from the beginning of railways in the early 19th century. The word actually predates railways, as it was derived from the very old "plateways" which existed hundreds of years ago, mainly for moving coal. Info from http://www.vaxxine.com/platelayers/]12
